2006-11-15 - Boat Plans
Posted by Jim.
Boat plans for the Amphibi-ette, C-27 and C-36 are available from Wooden Boat Magazine. I'm working on putting the plans for the Amphibi-con in PDF format and posting them on the site as a downloadable item. I must first get permission to do so from Mount Desert Yacht Yard, who owns the rights to the design.

We have a Cyrus Hamlin designed 41' cruising yawl that is based on the controversy 36. She was built in 1965 by Junior Miller at Southwest Boat Co.. John Coolidge had her built and sailed without an engine for many years along the maine and canadian coast. We have owned her since 2002 and have just returned from living and cruising on her in the carribean. We would love to hear any history about her. We are now back in Cape Elizabeth, Me.
Thanks Sam |

2006-01-15 - New C27 owner
Posted by dansfick.
I just found your web site. I have a C27 that was built in England by Miles Marine, Hull No 6714, in July 27 1962. I bought the boat as a left over from an auction at a greatly reduced price. There was some core damage on the deck under most of the lifeline stantions. The hatch covers all leaked as did most of the other deck hardware. The Atomic 4 had been removed and a outboard mounted on the transom with a bracket. It was imposable to use the motor around other boats and in crowded places singlehanded.
I sailed the boat for a few months out of Frendship harbor where I have a mooring. The boat was a joy to sail singlehanded except for the motor. The boat was so well behaved that after a few sails I hardly ever used it at all. When I hauled the boat late that fall I built a boat shed around the boat and she has been out of the water now for 2 years while I have worked on the deck leaks. My goal is to get enough of the structual things taken care of so I can sail her this summer.
I don't have a digital camera so I have no pictures yet. Hope to change that this year.
Would like to look at any other C27 on the coast of Maine this summer if posable.
The boats name is Maranatha and she will be berethed in Friendship harbor this summer.

2004-10-09 - A Returning Amphibite Owner
Posted by Jim.
I was just informed during a recent Email from Tom MacNaughton that his brother, Dan is once again an owner: "by the way, my brother Dan just acquired the “Amphibette” “Mar Clo”, which was once the yacht of Bill Robinson editor of Yachting. Re-named “Spar Hawk” she is already in the water and sailing. Dan hasn’t had a boat in the water for quite a while either. Typically people who design boats and supervise boat restoration for a living can’t find the time to restore their own boats!" Our congrats to Dan!!!
